12 Free Puzzle Games for iPhone That Are Fun To Play

Unlike most other forums and blogs, my list of free puzzle games on iPhone is nothing like rocket science. Rather, these are puzzle games that don’t have any heads but are fun to play. So, you might find games that violate physics, some might make you think outside the box, and a few just want you to match the same tiles to par a level. All of this is for fun, and most of it is for exercising your brain to think, which is a lot better than staring at your screen scrolling reels and shorts.

To address this, if you wish to restrict your child from social media apps and aggressive use of the internet, you can get a parental control app. We already have a shortlist – Bark and Qustodio (Not in partnership). You can read a detailed review of Bark vs. Qustodio if you wish to pick among these.

Let’s learn about each of these puzzle games, what makes them the best, and the pros and cons of the game.

1. Block Blast

Block Blast Puzzle Game for iPhone

Features

  • Simple drag-and-drop mechanics
  • Multiple levels with increasing difficulty
  • Vibrant and engaging graphics
  • Daily challenges and rewards

Block Blast is one of the most interesting games out there, and it is not a regular block game from your childhood. Rather, this game is a mix of block and jigsaw puzzles, which makes the game more teasing.

To play this game, you need to complete a row or a column of the block on your screen with the block suggestions at the bottom. The game will continuously offer the block suggestions until there is no space left on the screen. When all the blocks are done, you complete a level. However, the trick here is not to find the right block but to use blocks to make as much space as possible, score points, and plan your next move in advance.

Pros

  • Easy-to-learn game
  • No time limit; play at your own pace
  • Each new level increases the difficulty and makes the game challenging.

Cons

  • Contains annoying ads that can only be removed with in-app purchases

2. Watermelon Drop: Fruit Merge

Watermelon Drop Fruit Merge

Features

  • Colorful and appealing fruit graphics
  • Simple tap controls
  • Endless gameplay mode
  • Leaderboards to compete with friends

The second game on our list of free puzzles for iPhone is the Watermelon Drop, which is a fun game that challenges nature and is a good way to pass your time. In this puzzle game, users spend their time merging two or more of the same fruits till there is no space or fruit left. Now, this might feel silly, but with each level passing by, you can feel the game become challenging. It also allows you to connect with your friends and compete with them on the leaderboard.

In my opinion, the game is a lot more similar to the 2048 game, but instead of numbers, you get to see fruits, which gives a little fun side and makes it feel interesting for the kids.

Pros

  • Challenging game with each level passing by
  • Compete with friends on the leaderboard
  • Easy to play and learn

Cons

  • A bunch of ads that can only go with in-app purchases
  • Two fruits touch but cannot be merged; they have to go over from the other end of the stack, which makes no sense

3. Offline Games – No WiFi Games

Offline Games No WiFi Puzzle Games on iPhone

Features

  • Multiple puzzle games in one app
  • No internet required
  • Regular updates with new games
  • User-friendly interface

The app houses several puzzle games, from board games to words, and you will find some of the popular ones here. But that’s not the only best part; the app runs without the internet, so there are no annoying ads ruining your excitement and game time.

Offline Games – No WiFi Games can serve as an absolute convenience when you are on top of a mountain or in transit with almost no internet connection. In fact, you can still play them with ease when you are traveling internationally and have no internet to spend on games.

Of course, the games that come along with this app might not be as good as the standalone versions, but they still work well and help you play various games within one single app.

Pros

  • Variety of mindful games to keep your brain active
  • No annoying ads; play without an internet connection and enjoy your puzzles
  • New games are regularly updated

Cons

  • Though several games, they might not be as polished as the standalone versions

4. Screw Pin – Jam Puzzle

Screw Pins Jam Puzzle Game

Features

  • Unique pin-based puzzles
  • Increasingly challenging levels
  • Clean and minimalist design
  • Hint system for difficult levels

If you haven’t seen an advertisement about one of these board puzzles, are you even a digital puzzle maniac? This game can turn your brain into a 404 error if you aren’t as smart as me. Just kidding.

The Screw Pin-Jam Puzzle is one of the interesting board games where a player is required to unscrew the pins in the right order and drop them in the right screw box. Now, this game might look simple at the start, but with each level, you can find new challenges that become more difficult. Of course, if you are stuck at any level, you can use the hint system and get some help, which will ease things for you a little bit.

Pros

  • A lot different than most of the board games on the app store
  • Clean gameplay and UI make the game a lot easier to learn and play
  • ASMR sounds which helps in stimulating your brain and relax it
  • No time limit; play whenever and as much as you wish
  • Unlimited levels with increasing difficulty

Cons

  • Limited replay value once you start completing levels
  • Free to play, but a lot of in-app purchases
  • Annoying ads

5. Traffic Escape

Traffic Escape Puzzle Game

Features

  • Realistic traffic scenarios
  • Various levels with increasing difficulty
  • Smooth and responsive controls
  • Daily challenges

The next puzzle on our list is Traffic Escape, a challenging puzzle game in which users need to navigate their vehicles to escape traffic blocks. Before trying out this game, I had seen a lot of ads about it, and in my opinion, it is a fun game to play; it relates to a few real-life traffic and parking scenarios and works like rearranging blocks to remove a certain item from a place. Overall, it helps develop thinking and problem solving, which makes this puzzle worth playing alongside having fun.

Pros

  • A good puzzle game to develop strategic thinking and problem-solving.
  • Each new level brings a new level of difficulty, which makes it more challenging.
  • Realistic and immersive gameplay

Cons

  • The ads can be annoying and can be removed only in-app purchases, which are a lot.

6. Cryptogram: Word Puzzle Game

Cryptogram Word Puzzle Game

Features

  • Thousands of quotes to decode
  • Various difficulty levels
  • Hints and clues available
  • Simple and elegant interface

This is one of my favorite puzzle games, where you need to complete a quote or a riddle using substitute alphabets in the blanks. Initially, the game looks super easy; there are common riddles and quotes that you can easily decode, but with each level, it gets more challenging.

To help you with this, you get a hint system that requires you to watch an ad to unlock a hint, which may come in handy. Such kinds of puzzle games help you improve your memory power by forcing you to remember quotes or riddles and also help you learn new ones in the process.

Pros

  • Expands vocabulary and improves cognitive skills
  • A large variety of quotes
  • More difficulty with new levels
  • Hint system to always help you out

Cons

  • A lot of Ads; I prefer turning off my internet connection before starting the game to avoid them
  • It might be difficult at a young age as users might not be aware of most quotes and riddles

7. Royal Match

Royal Match Puzzle Game

Features

  • Hundreds of levels
  • Beautifully designed graphics
  • Power-ups and boosters
  • Regular events and challenges

Royal Match is a match-3 puzzle game with a royal twist, where players help King Robert restore his castle by completing colorful levels. With hundreds of levels to play, Royal Match keeps players engaged with a variety ofchallenges and beautiful graphics.

The game features power-ups and boosters that help players clear difficult levels, adding an extra layer of strategy. Regular events and challenges offer additional rewards and keep the gameplay fresh. However, it can become difficult to progress without making in-app purchases.

Pros

  • One game with a puzzle theme that makes you addicted to thinking at different levels
  • Visually stunning with a story that keeps you intrigued and attentive; it doesn’t bore you quickly to yawn; it is a perfect transit game
  • Frequent updates with new content keep the game fresh
  • Boosters and power-ups to help you solve difficult levels

Cons

  • Ads that are annoying
  • In-app purchases at a point after which you might find it difficult to play without purchasing coins, boosters, or other perks

8. Match Factory

Match Factory Puzzle Game

Features

  • Various game modes
  • Unique power-ups and combos
  • Daily rewards and challenges
  • Colorful and vibrant graphics

Similar to Royal Match, The Match Factory is a three-puzzle game with vibrant and colorful graphics. Here, you need to match the same color tile to clear levels and various game modes, which makes it a lot of fun. Unlike most of the color-matching tile games, instead of a board with random colors, you can find different elements from your daily life like fast food, fruits, or even ducks and beach toys piled up, and you need to find the perfect match to solve it. This game will help you with cognitive skills as it requires you to think, match, and look at things that are often right in front of you.

Pros

  • Color tile matching game but with a whole different perspective
  • Helps you with cognitive skills
  • Great for a quick game in the midst of breaks and transit

Cons

  • In-app purchases for power-ups, boosters, and other perks
  • Annoying ads can only be removed with in-app purchases

9. Wood Nuts and Bolts Puzzle

Wood Nuts & Bolts Puzzle

Features

  • Challenging levels
  • Wooden textures and ASMR for better stimulation
  • Relaxing and calming gameplay
  • No time limit; play at your own pace

The Wood Nuts and Bolts puzzle game may feel a lot similar to the Screw Pin puzzle game on the list; however, it is much more than just unscrewing pins. Here, you need to unscrew nuts and bolts in order to eliminate all the wooden plates. In addition, you also need precise screwing and loosening, rearranging screws in order, and trying to experiment with different ways to clear the challenges.

The game becomes more challenging with each level passing by, and there are a total of 300+ levels, including beginners to advanced levels. Alongside this, you will get a hint system to help you solve the most difficult challenges.

Pros

  • Visually appealing and relaxing puzzle game
  • Hint system to rescue you from challenging levels
  • Involves various cognitive elements like thinking, rearranging, and strategic planning

Cons

  • Limited levels in comparison to any other puzzle game on the list
  • Ads and In-app purchases for hints and more

10. Wordscapes

Wordscapes Puzzle Game

Features

  • Thousands of mind-tickling levels
  • Daily puzzles and challenges
  • Good for vocabulary and spelling
  • Improves memory stimulation

The next game on our list is probably one of the most trending puzzle games on the app store because it is less complicated and more difficult to play with each level passing by. Wordscapes is a fun blend of crossword and word search elements.

In this game, you can find the traditional crossword puzzle block on your screen, but to fill those, you will need to make the right word pattern on the wheel at the bottom. The wheel consists of 5 alphabets, and the whole crossword is based on the words that can be combined with these 5 alphabets. To create a word pattern, you slide your finger from one alphabet to another.

It is one of the brain-teasing games that require a lot of patience and quality thinking. One of the must-try puzzle games on your iPhone.

Pros

  • Hint systems to help you solve difficult levels
  • Visually appealing game that is good for memory stimulation
  • Helps you improve vocabulary and spelling
  • Introduces you to new words

Cons

  • For me, the background is distracting while still being relevant to the theme of the puzzle
  • Game hints can be pricy

11. Figgerits (Strictly for Nerds)

Figgerits Word Puzzle Game

Features

  • This challenging puzzle game is made for nerds
  • Difficult levels to tease your brain
  • Hundreds of quotes and riddles to solve
  • Simple and interactive UI
  • Explanation of thought behind the quote/riddle once you solve it

This is my constant favorite puzzle game on the iPhone app store, and this game is purely for nerds. It is something similar to the Cryptogram but more advanced. In this puzzle game, you get a lot more than quotes and riddles that need to be filled with alphabets to clear levels.

Of course, you get hints to solve difficult challenges, but they are never enough, as the quotes and riddles keep getting complex and unique. However, a good approach can be to use a hint and try reducing each phrase so it gets easier for you to solve the entire quote or riddle. The same goes for the Cryptogram.

Pros

  • Brain teasing game with complicated levels
  • Hint system to rescue
  • Meaningful decode: know what the quote or riddle means after you solve it

Cons

  • Ads and in-app purchases: turn off the internet before starting the game to dodge ads.
  • Not for everyone, the game is difficult on almost all levels

12. Brain Test 2: Tricky Stories

Brain Test 2 Puzzle Game

Features

  • Multiple levels with different characters and stories ensure a fresh and engaging experience
  • Puzzles are designed to be both challenging and funny, often requiring out-of-the-box thinking
  • If you get stuck, the game provides hints and solutions to help you progress
  • Play the game without needing an internet connection and kill ads
  • Regular updates with new levels and content to keep the gameplay fresh

Brain Test 2 is a second version of the original Brain Test game, and I already love the first version. With Brain Test 2, users need to solve simple visual riddles to clear levels, and these are not your regular logic. Brain Test has always been about thinking out of the box, and if you like a fun brain-teasing puzzle game, this is one for you.

Brain Test 2 introduces puzzle stories with colorful characters and a new set of puzzle games like cultivating a farm, defeating the lion king, and also hunting the monsters under your bed. Of course, there are ads like before, and you can skip them, add boosters or hints, and get a VIP package with in-app purchases.

Pros

  • The humorous and creative puzzles keep players entertained
  • Each level offers a unique challenge that requires creative problem-solving
  • The game is easy to navigate, making it accessible to players of all ages
  • The game is free to download and play, with optional in-app purchases

Cons

  • Repetitive or similar puzzles
  • Contains ads
